Seven hours in-home respite is equivalent to one day in residential respite. The DVA cardholder file number and name, the proposed dates of admission and facility name should be provided to the Veterans' Home Care assessor. Veterans do not source residential respite.

This service provides respite options for people with high support needs either because of their disability and/or challenging behaviour by providing flexible and appropriate activities, that will in turn minimise the risk of institutionalisation. A respite package is designed in consultation with the service user / family reflecting their needs, lifestyle and personal respite preferences. The persons providing care are very experienced and have demonstrated skills in providing support for people with high support needs. Users of this service are required to pay a contribution towards the cost of the care. Costs vary but may be as low $2 per hour for some respite.
